It’s A Go!

I’m home!!!!.. and got the go ahead for my surgery on 16th June. So all is set for the stage so to speak…lol..

a surgeon and nurse performing surgeryThe doctors and the nurses at the pre-admission office was all so friendly and knew me by name that I felt like I was wearing some form of name badges or something.  I reckon they were trained like that to make us all feel at ease during what would be a traumatic experience for some.

My pre-ops examination went very smoothly. My ECG and X-ray results were great. The anesthetist explained to me what would happened during the process and the side effects after the anesthetic has worn off. My blood was taken for blood type and blood count. They also gave me a checklist of what to do a day before the surgery, on the day of the surgery and on discharge day.

I also chose what kind of ward I wanted and guess what, based on my “income” level, I am also eligible for more subsidy.. Yeay!

I Need A Money Tree

money_treeI was just doing my accounts and just realized my medical expenses with regards to this fibroids thingy has reached up to close to SGD400 already. Lucky for me the surgery itself will be paid using my medisave account and I’m hoping even if things get complicated, all my expenses will be borned by the account otherwise for sure I got to ask for financial aid. lol!

Times like this I wished I really made an effort into looking at that medical insurance I keep talking of getting but never really went around to looking for agents. It’s times like this too I wish I had some investment or insurance account that I can cash out on or know of some best penny stocks options that I can start looking at and make a quick buck. lol! I mean I’m looking at this site right now and with such small investment, the returns are really good, provide you know what you’re doing of course.

Can you tell I’m desperate? lol.. Seriously though I hope to God that this surgery remained a laparoscopic one as it will not only heal much faster, hurt much less and  I also don’t have to walk like I’ve just given birth or something.

Short Trip I Hope

I can’t believe I’m another coach tomorrow heading back to SG.. Where did my week go? Oh well.. I guess that’s what all those management jobs training during secretarial courses were for eh?

This ought to be a short trip if everything is ok with me. The pre-ops appointment is just so they can run some test to make sure I’m ready for my surgery on 16th June. I also need to talk to the Anesthetist on the type of anesthesia they gonna use. The room booking would also be done on that day to make sure I get the room that I can afford.. lol!

Endometriosis – My Story Part 2

Continuing from my blog post yesterday…

So since I was not prepared for another surgery especially since the last one was only 2years ago, the next meeting was set for 24 May for me to meet up with a specialist to learn more about my condition and what can be done to help me with my situation. The meeting was indeed beneficial as it helped me to understand my condition more, the risk if I didn’t go through with the surgery and the risk if I did go through the surgery.

Basically if I didn’t go through the surgery, my cyst may rupture or twist and by then I would be in so much pain that I would need to through with emergency surgery. If I were to go through with the surgery, the risk would be bleeding, infection and blood clots. The good news is that all these symptoms can be controlled with medication and the percentage of that happening is real low.

The doctor also explained that although basically my surgery will be done laparoscopically there might be a chance he may need to open me up should any complications arise.

Surgery Date

16 June - The Surgery

I had so many questions for my doctor that day and he answered me patiently and I didn’t feel pressured to do the surgery at all. Basically I was looking for reassurance that after I go through with this surgery my problem would be solved. He told me that if the problem still occur after the surgery is done, meaning my ovaries and my uterus are spic and span of any fibroids and cysts and cancer has been ruled out, he can prescribed something to counter the problem. After hearing that I was so relieved and after thinking about it and weighing the pros, I finally decided to go though with it.

When I went for surgery in 2008 in KL, there was no pre-op at all. They just took some blood to do some blood work and then ask me to come on the appointed date for the surgery. So when I was asked to come back on 2June, two weeks before my surgery,  for pre-op for this surgery, I know I am in good hands. I guess I will blog about that when it happens 🙂

PS: Cost for consulting with the specialist? SGD25 only. I love being a Singaporean 🙂
